Children’s NGOs convinced the authorities not to strengthen the residential system in Ukraine
There will be no new internat in Kyiv region, moreover Ministries are to report about the progress made in reformation of residential system for children, these and other decisions were made at special working meeting devoted to reformation of residential care for orphans and children deprived of parental care held on 23rd of July by Ministry of Family, Youth and Sports and headed by Minister Ravil Safiullin. -

EveryChild has led a coalition of nine children's charities to warn that the goal of eradicating extreme poverty by 2015 is unlikely to be realised unless more emphasis is given to children's rights to be loved and cared for in a family, and to be free from exploitation, abuse, neglect and violence. -

EveryChild Ukraine is calling for support from local and international NGOs for the Appeal against the Implementing Order of the Prime Minister of Ukraine, issued on 23rd of June 2010. This Order calls for revival and further development of childcare residential institutions in Ukraine. -

GENEVA, 14 June - the Pre-sessional Working Group of the Committee on the Rights of the Child met in Palais Wilson, Geneva to conduct preliminary review and to examine supplementary and alternative information on the promotion and protection of children's rights in Ukraine. A pre-sessional working group of the Committee convened a private meeting with UN agencies and bodies, NGOs, and other competent bodies which have submitted additional information to the Committee. -

Young Ukrainian care-leavers will get a sure start for independent life
Kyiv, 26 May, 2010: "Sure Start: care leavers integration programme (2010-2013)" - a new Ukrainian-Swiss project set up by Partnership for EveryChild, Swiss Branch of International Social Services with partner Kyiv Oblast State Administration will help to develop a model of social adaptation and professional integration for independent living for children in out-of-home care in Ukraine. The project will help young people get access to social support, occupation, to find a job, to solve the problem of housing. -

On the 26th of May at 11 p.m. a press conference "Care leavers: from State Care to Independence" will be held for the launch of 3 year Ukrainian-Swiss project "Sure Start: Care-Leavers' Integration Programme" (Kyiv Oblast State Administration, room 740, 1, Lesi Ukrayinky sq.). Project aims to develop a model of social adaptation and professional integration for independent living for children in out-of-home care in Ukraine. -

EveryChild Ukraine transfers good practice and knowledge with delegation from Tajikistan
On 9-20th of April EveryChild Ukraine takes an active part in a study visit to explore Ukrainian childcare system and system of social services for colleagues from Tajikistan. -

18 March, EveryChild Ukraine and State Social Services for Families, Children and Youth set priorities for 2010 and signed an agreement for increased cooperation at the national level in an effort to improve social work with vulnerable families with children and develop a modern legal framework of social work. -

Trainers on social work with children learned how to prevent child separation effectively
On the 5th of February 30 selected trainers participating in "Prevention of Separation of Children through the implementation of Gate-keeping Mechanism" project in Kyiv region completed last modules on child development and child separation of Case Worker Core Training Programme. -

No child was placed into residential institutions or deprived of parental care during 2007-2009 - as a preliminary result of establishment of community social workers in pilot villages of Kyiv region. Unlike in 2006, when 4 villages reported about 11 cases of child separation, today social services intervene into crisis situation immediately and provide more competent assistance.
