Training for specialists on social networking with children and families
25-28 January EveryChild Ukraine in terms of the project "Preventing Separation of Children through Implementation of Gate-keeping mechanism" starts to teach specialists of social sphere and childcare services to use Swedish social networking method widely spread in Europe and Russia in their work with Ukrainian families in crisis. -

News about Elton John's intention to adopt a Ukrainian child made waves in the media recently. The singer only stated that on a visit to an orphanage, he instantly took to a baby boy Lev and was ready to adopt him. As it was revealed later, Elton John did not actually file a request for adoption; moreover, he is not entitled to do so. But the news rocked all the major western Internet sites concerned with celebrities. Yet it was noted that Ukrainian legislation on adoption is very strict, and children in this country will not be given to anyone who would fancy becoming an adoptive parent. -

The situation with adoption has improved dramatically in the past three years, reports Ukraine's Ministry of Family, Youth, and Sports of Ukraine. Last year over 2,000 children were adopted by Ukrainians and 1,500 by foreign married couples, whereas in 2007 the numbers were reversed. -

Training on interagency co-operation for specialists working with emergency foster family
On the 23-24 of September in Brovary, Kyiv region EveryChild Ukraine will arrange training on inter-agency co-operation for specialists working with emergency foster family in terms of the project "Preventing Separation of Children through Implementation of Gate-keeping Mechanism". The objective in this training is to outline the approach to inter-agency work which is envisaged by the project, and the process by which this work is to be implemented and monitored. -

The duration of the project is two years, and it is co-funded by the European Union and UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).The main goal of the joint project is developing mechanisms of transformation of the current institution-based system of state care of children without parental care into a family-based system.
